We remember our brothers and sisters who have made their last roll call. May they Rest in Peace.
Raising relief funds through the distribution of Buddy Poppies is an important program and you should give you time and efforts in supporting your local post Buddy Poppy drive. Contact you Post Commander or Quartermaster to find out when and how you can participate
Coming home doesn't mean the battle is over. With over 10 times the amount of veterans lost to suicide than to combat operations in the same time period, there has never been a more important time to TAKE A STAND and DO something to support our veterans!! If you or someone you know is suffering from PTSD, we have people that have shared a similar experience and are ready to help.
I am pleased to announce that on 12 October Shawn Buck will replace Mike Horne as the director of the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery. Shawn retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel Amy and most recently worked at the highest levels of 2 private companies. He has a history of excelling in everything he does.
Shawn is a professional and polished leader who has a passion for taking care of our veterans and their families. He will continue the legacy of excellence of both Roger Desjardin and Mike Horne.

VFW Programs, Coordinator
Youth Scholarship Programs
his email is being sent as a friendly reminder of the Youth Scholarship program deadlines that are quickly approaching. The student essays for each program are due to be submitted to a local VFW Post by October 31st.
I have attached the Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen Chairman Manual which outlines lists the deadlines at each level. Ensure that each entry form is filled out completely and that the information is legible from the lowest level on. This includes the date that the student was notified of their winning essay at the Department level to ensure that I do not inform any of the kids too early. Keep in mind that there are weeks of work to be completed in a very short amount of time between when I receive the Department winning entries and when we finalize our Washington D.C. trip so the sooner I can reach out to the parents and kids is greatly appreciated.
Our biggest issue at this moment at the national level is the volume of emails and phone calls we receive from kids, parents and teachers trying to contact local VFW Posts in order to figure out the process or where they should submit their entries. I understand that this is a difficult thing since the posts are not always open to field these questions but please inform every level that in order to make these programs great and increase our participation we need to be available. I will be pushing most of the inquiries I get at this level to the Departments or Chairman who have a better understanding geographically who is participating in these programs. I also send them to the "Find a Post tool at www.vfw.org which shows post by zip code and what programs they participate in based off of the participation reports from last year programs.
Thank you in advance for everything that you do and if you have any questions or concerns please let me know and I will assist anyway.

...we want to welcome today's military service members into our ranks to become part of our elite group.
WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War, Kosovo, War in Afghanistan, War in Iraq, War on Global Terror and other Peace-Keeping Expeditionary Campaigns throughout the globe.
A man's country is not a certain area of land, of mountains, rivers, and woods, but it is a principle and patriotism is loyalty to that principle.
The willingness of America's veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude.
